Earlier this year I was troubled with a question for the Lord: by giving and providing the New Hope Children everything are we teaching them to be dependent and eventually entitled? God provided His answer in highlights this year that dashed my worries to pieces. Our program coordinator, Dickson, and staff have been bringing the children out to witness both to church congregations and current street children. Our prior street kids have been returning to the landfills to help other children still living there. Also, completely on their own, from an outpouring of their gratitude and as part of their testimony the children have written praise songs together that tell of God's work in their lives.
Their excitement to give back to their community by sharing the story of how God has provided is evidence that gratitude prevails. God showed me that more than providing essentials (education, food, clothes, medical care) we are providing prior street children with three things you can never give too much of: stability, emotional security needed to thrive, and ultimately His love.
1) On the left: Our New Hope Heroes witnessing to street kids that live behind a hotel and wait for food scraps to be dropped of each day.
2) Top right: Current street children in prayer.
3) Bottom right: Our kids on the left talking to street children on the right. Dickson told me in this picture Francis is speaking and saying,"We are here to serve the Lord."
