NEW HOPE IN ACTION
-There are 100 Million Street Children living in the world today and 121 million children are living without education-
"Education is key of life." - a direct quote from Benson, one of our New Hope Hero's letters. In the picture to the right Benson is third in from the left of the top row. Standing proudly in the first school uniform he's ever worn.
Even at a young age these children understand the importance of education in life. It's a major component to opening the doors of their future. Many in their area can't afford the seven dollar school uniforms or supplies and therefore simply can't attend.
New Hope Children has made education a priority and our goal is to encourage each child to take their education as far as they can go.
Food and Shelter
-640 million children (1 in 3) without adequate shelter-
-1 billion (every second child)) lives in poverty and 400 million have no access to safe food and water-
Prior to New Hope Children most of our kids were sleeping in a local landfill or in random hidden places of town. They were exposed to the elements, biting/stinging insects such as scorpions and malaria causing mosquitoes.
Now, our children sleep soundly and safely in our New Hope Centre which can house forty children at one time. The New Hope Centre is a place to call home while our children attend school. They receive warm meals provided by our cook, loving support from our house mom, and life skills and guidance counseling from support staff at the Centre. We have also hired tutors to ensure our children do as well as they can in school.
-270 million children have no access to health services-
Our children receive both routine and emergency healthcare through
the local hospital and clinic in Lodwar. Malaria continues to be a problem in the area but with mosquito nets and travel tents we're seeing a large reduction in malaria cases.
The New Hope Children Program has implemented a trained and dedicated team of local staff who provide group and individual counselling specific to the needs of children adjusting out of street life.
THE NEW HOPE CENTRE
...of Love and Hope
Already named "The New Hope Centre" our children have added the phrase "of Love and Hope". The Centre (British spelling), sits on five acres of land that will be used for recreational, training and self-sustainability purposes.
Currently, we have two dorms, a multi-purpose hall, a kitchen, office and storage. At capacity we can house and change the lives of 40 vulnerable youth. See video and photos to show examples of daily life at the Centre on our Photos page.
Asante sana (Swahili for thank you very much) to C4A (Classrooms for Africa) and all donors who made this Centre of Love and Hope a reality for our children in Kenya.
